JOURNEY TO THE END OF THE NIGHT RETURNS TO SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco, CA – As the culminating event of the Come Out and Play Festival, Journey to the End of the Night, a citywide street game in its eighth year in San Francisco, kicks off on Saturday, October 25 at 6:00 PM by UN Plaza. Journey to the End of the Night will expect more than 2,000 runners who will dash throughout city streets, hidden alleys, encounter mysterious strangers, and experience the city in an alternate way.
For 2014, the game designers have added features to the game, each designed to ensure that the game is exciting and enjoyable for all players of varying skill levels. Runners will have the freedom to shape their journey by visiting checkpoints in any order. This year, Journey to the End of Night immerses players in an alternate reality world of dystopic Eastern San Francisco nearing natural disaster. “Plymouth Arcology”, a utopia high rise on top of Mt. Sutro, promises safety as long as players will have paperwork certified by six local offices while enduring the chaos of mass population displacement.
The game will have a maximum attendance of 3,000. Online pre-registration is required, but it does not guarantee entry. Entry will be first-come, first-served, and anyone without a printed and signed waiver will not be able to participate. Organizers will start handing out materials by 6:00 PM at Fulton Street between Hyde Street and Larkin Street.
The game begins promptly at 7:00 PM, so players are recommended to arrive early to guarantee participation. It is advised to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Prizes will be awarded for top finishers and best chasers.

About Journey to the End of the Night
Journey to the End of the Night is a free street game played across cities around the world, spreading from San Francisco to Chicago, Washington D.C., Milan, Berlin, Mexico City, Christchurch, and beyond. For one night, players drop their relations, their work and their leisure activities, and all their usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attraction of the chase and its experiences. No bicycles, no skates, no cars, no taxis. Players may only travel on foot or by public transportation. Players sporting colored ribbons will race through a series of checkpoints scattered throughout the city, while avoiding being caught by chasers. Those who survive will be praised and feted at the end party. Those who fall will become chasers themselves, rising to pursue the remaining runners.
Since its creation in 2006, Journey to the End of the Night was inspired by urban exploration, bike messenger alleycat races, capture the flag, parkour, and of course, tag. It has attracted players from young to old who race but also experience interactive experiences at checkpoints ranging from solving a real-life game of clue to answering the question “If I die, tonight I would….” to wearing bells around their ankles.
